PONY CLUB Raceday/Jockey Skills

The Jockey Skills Training Course is one of the most exciting aspects of this initiative. Ten Pony Club members are selected to participate in the course at the world renowned Racing Academy and Centre of Education (RACE) in Kildare town prior to the Race Day. The course is open to Irish Pony Club members aged 14 to 16 years who hold a minimum C test certificate and who are under 9 stone weight.
The overall winner of the Jockey Skills course will be announced at the Race Day. During the exhibition race at the Curragh, the members who completed the Jockey Skills course will ride the pony/horse they usually ride at Pony Club activities.

The Irish Pony Club would like to wish the ten candidates who will begin the 2019 RACE Jockey Skills Course today the very best of luck.

The ten candidates will spend two days at RACE in Kildare, immersing themselves in the life of a jockey.  We would like to thank RACE for their continued support of this fantastic educational opportunity for our members.  The ten candidates include:

  • Seersha Watson, Bray Hunt Branch,
  • Rory O'Donnell, Scarteen Hunt Branch,
  • Lauren Hartley, Waterford Hunt Branch,
  • Holly Gleeson, Newcastle Lyons Branch,
  • Jessica Stokes, Tipperary Hunt Branch,
  • Jack Lucey, Muskerry Hunt Branch,
  • David Russell, Scarteen Hunt Branch,
  • Alexandra Egan, Kildare Hunt Branch,
  • Ted O'Leary, Westmeath Hunt Branch and
  • Rachel D'Arcy, Shillelagh and District Hunt Branch.

Successful participants who pass an assessment at RACE this weekend will also have the opportunity to take part in an exhibition race on the Curragh Racecourse during the Irish Pony Club Race Day on Saturday 28th September 2019.

Good luck everyone!  Have a great weekend!
