The Mackey Irish Pony Club Hunter Trial Championships will take place on Saturday 7th April at Ballintober Equestrian, New Ross, Co. Wexford.  Entries are now OPEN and must be completed through your Branches Its Plain Sailing page before Wednesday 28th March at 12 noon.

 The competitions that will take place as part of the Mackey Irish Pony Club Hunter Trial Championships are as follows:

  1. THE MACKEY IRELAND JUNIOR PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE SARAH MILLER MEMORIAL CUP.
    1. Riders must be a minimum of 11 years and under 15 years and must have passed their C Test.
  2. JUNIOR SINGLES.
    • Open to riders who have competed in Junior Pairs and open to those who only want to ride as junior individuals.
    • Riders must be a minimum of 11 years and under 15 years and have passed the ‘C’ test.
    • Members must pre-enter via the online system.
    • This is not a Championship Competition; the winning branch will not be awarded points for the Lillingston, Carroll or Brennan Cups.
  3. NOVICE INTERMEDIATE PAIRS.
    • Open to riders who are a minimum of 15 years and under 23 years and who have passed the “C” test.
    • Over a track which is a maximum of 90 cms.
    • Small branches with limited numbers may apply to the Chairman for special permission to allow a member of less than 15 years to make up a pair. Horse and rider combinations that have been part of a Team of Three or a Senior Pair in a previous championship or have ridden in the Senior Singles (2017) are not eligible except under certain circumstances, reasons for which must be attached to the entry form for consideration.
  4. NOVICE INTERMEDIATE SINGLES.
    • Open to riders who have competed in Novice Intermediate Pairs and open to those who only want to ride as a Novice Intermediate Single.
    • Riders must be minimum of 15 years and under 23 years and have passed the “C” test.
    • Members must pre-enter via the online system.
    • This is not a Championship Competition; the winning branch will not be awarded points for the Lillingston, Carroll or Brennan Cups.
    • All other conditions of entry apply as for the Championship competitions.
  5. THE MACKEY IRELAND TEAMS OF 3 CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE IPC PERPETUAL CHALLENGE CUP.
    • Riders must be a minimum of 12 years. Two of the team must be under 21 years; the third rider may be under 23 years.
    • Teams of Three will be eliminated after four refusals at the same obstacle (rather than three refusals).
  6. THE MACKEY IRELAND SENIOR PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE FARRELL FAMILY CUP.
    • Riders must be a minimum of 15 years and under 23 years.
  7. SENIOR SINGLES.
    • Open to riders who have competed in Teams of Three and Senior Pairs and open to those who only want to ride as senior individuals. Riders must be a minimum of 12 years.
    • Please note members must pre-enter this competition via the online system.
    • This is not a Championship Competition; the winning branch will not be awarded points for the Lillingston, Carroll or Brennan Cups.
  8. Major Victor McCalmount Trophy Hunting Horn Competition
    • Calls to be blown include:
      • "Drawing Covert"
      • "Gone Away"
      • "Going Home"

Please Note: The Novice Intermediate Pairs and Singles competitions will be run over the Junior course and thus the fences will be the same as height as for the Junior Pairs and Singles.

The Entry Fees for the Mackey IPC Hunter Trials are:

  • Teams of Three Championship - €100 per team
  • Senior Pairs Championship - €60 per pair
  • Senior Singles - €25 each
  • Junior Pairs Championship - €60 per pair
  • Novice Intermediate Pairs Competition - €50 per pair
  • Junior Singles - €25 each
  • Novice Intermediate Singles - €25 each
  • Hunting Horn Competition - €10 each

All competitions must be pre-entered. No refunds will be made after the programme goes to print on Wednesday 4th April.

Stabling will be available with Peter and Kate Bolger, Rosemount. Straw bedding provided. Cost €15 without hay, €20 with hay supplied. Book stables by contacting: Kate Bolger on 086-0760016. Stabling fees must be paid directly to Kate Bolger.

Directions to the Venue

Ballintober Equestrian is located less than ten minutes outside New Ross off the N30, New Ross to Enniscorthy Road.  Travelling from New Ross to Enniscorthy, Ballintober Equestrian is on the left-hand side. For more detailed directions from your base, please use the following Eircode to get detailed directions through Google Maps or AA websites – Y43 YA97.  Signs will be in place on the N30 to direct Irish Pony Club members to the site.

Course Inspection

The course will be open for inspection from 2.00 pm until dusk on Friday 6th April after which time the gates will be locked. Please remember: Do not to climb over or sit on fences and do not tamper with flags, foliage or roping. The landowners have particularly asked that no competitors walk the course before this. 

While not ideal it is sometimes necessary to walk the course whilst a competition is in progress. In the interests of safety and consideration for competitors on the track, fence judges and officials, it may be necessary to restrict access to some obstacles. Obstruction has been caused by those on foot in previous years so please try to avoid this happening again.

Number Collection

Please appoint someone who will be at the course early, to collect all Branch numbers.
Competition numbers and hat tagging will be available at the IPC secretary’s office from 3pm to 6.30pm on Friday 6th April and from 8.30am on the morning of the Championship. Branches are responsible for bringing their own cross-country number bibs for all their competitors. The IPC office provides the number insert cards for the Bibs. Tack Inspection

Members must present for Tack Inspection 30 minutes prior to their estimated competition time, which will be published on the IPC Website on Wednesday 4th April.
When presenting at Tack Inspection all competitors MUST be accompanied by a knowledgeable adult, appointed by the DC, who can assist with tack alterations should this be necessary.  Please ensure that all intending competitors and parents have read the current Tack Sheet, all skull caps must bear the required standard and the BSI Kitemark or SEI Kitemark or Snell standard.  Level 3 Body Protectors (purple label) are required.

Accommodation

Please check on the internet for B & B’s in the area.  Please Note: Overnight stay will not be allowed on site.  The gates will be locked overnight.

Vaccination Requirements

All ponies/horses must have received:

  1. A Primary Course of TWO injections not less than 21 days or more than 92 days apart.
  2. A First Booster must be given 5 - 7 months (not less than 150 days and not more than 215 days) after the second injection of the Primary Course.
  3. Thereafter, Annual Boosters are to be given not more than 12 months apart.
  4. Vaccination within 7 days prior to entering the Stables is NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR ANY vaccination.
  5. If at any time an injection is given later than is required under these rules, the whole sequence must be started from the beginning, including the 5 – 7 month booster. If you are unsure, please ask your vet to check your vaccinations NOW.
