AMENDMENT TO 2012 RULE BOOK
The Dressage & Combined Training Rule Book 2012 will be available shortly. We would highlight an important amendement:
Page 4-
A rider is considered to have made an error when he/she departs from the direction or place laid down in the text of the Test. He cannot be penalised for test errors unless the judge rings the bell. The Test must then be restarted from the spot where the error occurred.
A rider who starts the wrong test will be allowed to restart at the judge’s discretion as long as they can do so immediately. They will be penalised as a first error of course.
Errors of course are penalised as follows:
First error 2 points
Second error 4 points
Third error 8 points
Sustained Resistance (> 20 sec) Elimination
Failure to enter the arena within 45 secs of bell Elimination

NATIONAL DRESSAGE DAY
MARLTON STUD, WICKLOW, CO WICKLOW
SATURDAY 30 JUNE 2012
Thank you to everyone who supported our first ever National Dressage Day. The day was a great success and enjoyed by everyone. Even the weather was kind with only a few (albeit heavy) showers. There was great support for this new venture with over 140 tests ridden throughout the day.
The standard was very high, both the riding and the turnout, which was immaculate, so members, do
take a bow!
There was a learning element to the day with a fantastic demonstration by two of Irelands top dressage riders, Laragh Hamilton and Tara Oliver. Donie McNamara, renowned dressage coach put the riders through their paces as they demonstrated the more advanced movements of dressage. He explained the scale of training and articulated how the fitness and suppleness of the dressage horse is developed over time. The two horses demonstated Grand Prix and Prix St George movements and were studied by the attentive audience who no doubt will be striving to improve their own performances over the coming season having studied the experts.
Many rounds of applause were heard following some great performances in the Freestyle to Music class. This competition, which was a first for the Irish Pony Club, had riders from Under 12 up to Members and the work and innovation in the performances was enjoyed by the many spectators.
The day ran like clockwork thanks to all the hard work and preparation put in by Kate Harvey, Chairman of Dressage and Marie Hennessy, Committee member.
Many others helped to make the day a success; judges, scribes, call-up, scorers, caterers and the parents who along with the members, had a very sociable, competitive and enjoyable day.
The competition was enhanced by the very generous sponsorship of TRI who provided rugs, numnahs, headcollars and vouchers for prizewinners. A lovely memento of the day was given to each participant with personalised certificates presented to all. We could not have had a better venue than Marlton Stud which lends itself to running a competition like this, so thank you to the Delahoyde family for making us so welcome.
